VendrediX Sur Seine
Since the 1980s, the Marais has been the beating heart of the LGBTQI+ community (lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, intersex, and beyond), a vibrant mix of parties, activism, and encounters fueled by an unmatched energy. Here, you won’t find sprawling dance floors of mega-clubs: the bars and clubs, often compact (thanks to Parisian real estate prices), foster intimate and electrifying atmospheres. While primarily catering to a gay male clientele, there are also a few standout spots where lesbian, queer, and trans men and women come to connect, dance, and express themselves.
Whether you’re part of the LGBTQI+ community or simply an ally, the gay Marais is sure to captivate you. Here are my favorite spots to dance—whether among men, among women, or all together.
1. Le Tango: retro elegance beneath the disco ball

The Tango, or « La Boîte à Frissons, » is a true Parisian institution that almost disappeared but was fortunately saved by the love of its regulars. It’s my favorite spot to watch a musette waltz flirt with a cha-cha, or a slow dance lose itself in a nostalgic Madison. Picture the scene: a pair of guys attempting a paso doble in ballroom competition style, followed by a group of girlfriends bursting onto the floor with a fully embraced disco routine. The sometimes improbable outfits only add to the spectacle, but here, no one cares about your skill level or style—everyone is just here to have fun. It’s chaotic, funny, respectful, and full of camaraderie. A night at the Tango is all about living the joy of dance with no pressure, and leaving with a smile that lasts until the next day. I love it. See you on the dance floor!

2. La Mutinerie: pride and feminine power
« QueerFeministLesbianTrans » Bar Since 2012. La Mutinerie is far more than just a bar—it’s a sanctuary for queer women and allies seeking a safe, inclusive, and empowering space. The styles here are as varied as the personalities, lifestyles, and sexualities: from bold fashion statements to casual wear that reflects individuality. The playlist mirrors this diversity, shifting seamlessly between feminist punk, hard-hitting electro, and empowering pop anthems that bring everyone to the dance floor. The atmosphere is electric, and the spirited debates at the bar add an intellectual and political layer to the festive energy of the place. It’s a space where you can truly feel free to be yourself. As a guy, I’ve always been warmly welcomed here because I respect the spirit of the place, its values, and the people who make it come alive. I encourage you to do the same.
3 Le Cud: underground energy in full swing

In the vaulted cellar of the Classic Up and Down (or CUD), the atmosphere is steamy and hypnotic, with basslines reverberating off the stone walls. The ground floor offers a quieter space to chat over a drink, but it’s downstairs where the party truly ignites. The crowd, mostly young at the start of the night, gathers to dance to intoxicating electro-house mixes and mesmerizing pop remixes under a cascade of lights. The music—an artful blend of mainstream pop and electrifying remixes—encourages everyone to let go completely. It’s a place where collective energy takes over, and the concept of time fades away. Leaving before dawn? Practically impossible.

4. Le Freedj: cozy vibes and festive energy
Le Freedj, a true Marais favorite, strikes the perfect balance between a cozy ambiance and festive energy. Tucked away on a bustling street, this bar-club charms with its exposed stone walls, soft lighting, and central bar that naturally sparks conversations from the early hours. The carefully crafted cocktails are the ideal companions for the start of the evening, when the atmosphere is still intimate and laid-back. But once the playlist kicks in—a refined blend of chic house, electro remixes, and irresistible beats—the small dance floor becomes the pulsating heart of the venue. I love coming here for that crescendo, where intimacy and celebration blend seamlessly.
5. Le Raidd Bar: where things heat up

At Le Raidd, the nights are always sizzling—and not just because of the playlist. The famous shower shows? Impossible to ignore. Picture this: impeccably sculpted go-go dancers moving seductively under a glass-enclosed shower, as if auditioning for a sultry remake of Singin’ in the Rain. Admit it, you’re intrigued. But surprisingly, that’s not the only highlight—the buzzing dance floor has just as much allure. With punchy electro beats, pop anthems, and groovy R’n’B tracks, the atmosphere is nothing short of electric. Here, you dance, laugh, and maybe steal a curious glance—or two.

6. Le Bear’s Den: warmth and authenticity
Le Bear’s Den is the ultimate gathering spot for the « bears »—those rugged, often bearded men embodying a relaxed and kind-hearted masculinity. The action happens in the vaulted cellar, where a small dance floor comes alive with disco and pop classics, and karaoke nights unleash both voices and laughter. But the magic isn’t confined to the inside—the party often spills into the street, with lively conversations and drinks in hand creating a warm, inclusive atmosphere. Add in a few discreet nooks for the more adventurous, and you have a space where everyone can find their moment. At Le Bear’s Den, celebration, camaraderie, and respect reign supreme.
7. Le Gibus: the XXL icon of electrifying nights

Just above République, Le Gibus stands as a cornerstone of LGBTQI+ nightlife in Paris. With its massive venue and electrifying dance floor, it’s the perfect place to let the bass take over. Its truly exceptional lineup features international DJ sets, mind-blowing house and electro nights, and surprising themed events that draw a diverse and enthusiastic crowd. Every detail is designed to deliver an unforgettable party experience, leaving memories as intense as the vibrations from its speakers. It’s the kind of place you have to experience at least once—and the kind you’ll keep coming back to.

8. Le Workshow: a party for everyone
Located right across from La Mutinerie and bar Les aimant.e.s, the lesbian headquarters of Saint-Martin Street’s vibrant scene, Le Workshow adds an extra spark to the neighborhood’s nightlife. Here, everyone is welcome, and the atmosphere is as inclusive as it is festive. With its industrial loft vibe, creative lighting installations, and daring electro DJ sets, every night feels like a one-of-a-kind experience. The programming is eclectic and bold, mixing arty performances with beats that ignite the dance floor. Whether you’re there to dance, chat, or simply soak up the infectious energy, Le Workshow is a friendly haven that will make you want to stretch the night to its very limits…
9. Vendredix sur Seine: the magic of outdoor nights

Every Friday from 7 PM to 2 AM, Vendredix sur Seine takes over Scilicet on the banks of the Seine, between Hôtel de Ville and Châtelet, offering a vast outdoor space in the heart of Paris. Entrance is free, and the vibe is irresistible: drinks are shared, people dance, chat, flirt, and kiss—all while watching the bateaux-mouches glide by! It’s the perfect place to kick off the weekend in style. The playlist, a mix of chill electro and festive beats, sets the tone for a relaxed yet lively atmosphere, illuminated by the sparkling lights of the city. Join us starting Spring 2025 for unforgettable Fridays by the Seine! You’ll find me there.

10. Madame Arthur: not in the Marais, but what a punch!
I’m saving the best for last. Yes, I’m cheating: Madame Arthur isn’t in the Marais, but in Montmartre. And honestly? That’s where I’ve had some of my most unforgettable nights. This legendary LGBTQI+ cabaret, iconic since 1946, offers a wild blend of outrageous drag performances, bold renditions of French chansons, and a multi-floor nightclub experience. The flamboyant drag queens, alongside eclectic artists, put on a show that’s both hilariously entertaining and sometimes provocatively edgy, with impeccable artistic quality. Once the curtain falls, the party continues with electrifying DJ sets and a dance floor that heats up until dawn. A night at Madame Arthur? You’ll leave dazzled, cheeks sore from laughing, and legs burning from the dance.
