Looking for a simple and convenient shopping experience in the Marais, without spending hours running from store to store? The BHV Marais is the perfect destination. Here, everything is gathered under one roof. Whether you’re in a hurry or prefer to spend your time strolling through the neighborhood, visiting museums, or exploring exhibitions, the BHV meets your needs without compromise.
An Institution at the Heart of Paris
The story of the BHV began in 1856, when visionary entrepreneur Xavier Ruel opened a small shop near the Hôtel de Ville. His philosophy? To offer high-quality products at accessible prices. This innovative concept quickly found success, leading to the expansion of the store, which became the renowned « Bazar de l’Hôtel de Ville. During the Belle Époque, the BHV became a must-visit destination for Parisians. It has weathered the decades, adapting its offerings and architecture to the needs of each generation while maintaining a warm atmosphere and a family spirit. Today, the BHV is both a modern institution and deeply rooted in Parisian history.

Windows That Sparkle with Wonder
If you find yourself strolling down Rue de Rivoli, you can’t miss the BHV’s windows. They transform with the seasons and themes, but it’s during Christmas that they truly shine. Each year, decorators push their creativity to the limit, turning the windows into animated tableaux filled with lights, colors, and enchanting scenes. It’s a dazzling display that delights both children and adults, making it a must-see for every Parisian and visitor in December.

This section is incredibly practical for locals, and it comes with a bit of history: back when it was located in the basement, it was famously a meeting spot for gay men—a playful anecdote that reflects the open-minded, cosmopolitan spirit of the neighborhood! - Ground Floor: La Beauté du Bazar
Makeup, skincare, and a more eco-conscious selection share the space with leather goods, jewelry, and fine watches. Bright and chic, it’s the perfect spot to find last-minute gifts or to treat yourself. - 1st Floor: Women’s Fashion and Shoes

A chef’s paradise with an impressive selection of cooking tools and a curated gourmet grocery. This is where I always find the missing piece for my kitchen setup. - 4th Floor: Home Décor and Linens
Transform your living space with stylish décor, elegant furniture, and chic accessories. I often find inspiration here for my Marais duplex. - 5th Floor: Lingerie and Children’s Items
A refined selection of lingerie, tights, and various children’s essentials. - 6th Floor: Mattresses and Bedding
The secret to a good night’s sleep with high-quality mattresses, duvets, and pillows—not to mention breathtaking views of Paris!

A Gourmet Break at the BHV and Nearby

After exploring the floors of BHV’s flagship store, a break is definitely in order. La Table Cachée, perched on the rooftop, remains one of my favorite options with its breathtaking views and dishes made from local ingredients. I talk about it in my article, « My Favorite Rooftop Restaurants in Le Marais. » But if you’re looking for a more casual setting, try Les Tables Perchées, a bright and welcoming space perfect for a quick meal or coffee with a view. Both are located on the 5th floor.
